In our comparison of mammographic densities between women in Hawaii, an error occurred when we transformed the number of pixels into mm2. Because we were not aware that the software for the Cobrascan CX612T X-ray digitizer applies a linear scaling factor of 1.27 (equivalent to 1.6129 when calculating the size of an area) during scanning, we underestimated the breast sizes and the dense and non-dense areas in the study population. To allow valid comparisons with other studies, the corrected values are presented here (bold numbers in Table 2
). Percentage densities, statistical analyses, and any conclusions about differences between groups were not affected by this mistake. We apologize for the oversight.
