Continuing Education in Epidemiology for Public Health Administrators in Japan

ITSUZO SHIGEMATSU1

1 Head, Department of Epidemiology, Institute of Public Health 6-1, Shirokanedai 4 chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan

Since 1939 the Institute of Public Health in Tokyo has offered a Diploma in Public Health which includes basic course work in epidemiology. In 1968 the Department of Epidemiology in the Institute started a one month post-graduate refresher course for graduates from the D. P. H. programme and this has been given annually since. The curriculum, which is changed from time to time, is described in detail and some of the problems encountered in running the course are discussed.
