Teaching of Epidemiology at the Warsaw Medical Academy
1 Director, Institute of Social Medicine, Medical Academy Oczki 3, Warsaw, Poland
The teaching programme in social medicine recently developed at the Institute of Social Medicine at the Warsaw Medical Academy is described. The teaching is given during the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth year of the medical studies. Epidemiology is not thought of as a separate subject but as an integrated part of the course in social medicine. The training methods include lectures, small group discussions, problem-solving exercises and field projects. The teaching process is organized in such a way that it involves the active participation of the students. The new programme has several unquestionable advantages. However, there are still some short comings, and new approaches are being sought to improve the teaching process.
