Cancer Mortality and Urbanization in China

ROBIN HAYNES

School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK

Maps of 14 cancer types in China appear to show distinctive geographical distributions, but principal components analysis reveals that they share an underlying pattern which reflects variations in urbanization. Differences in risk factors between rural and urban areas, the process of disease transition and geographically biased data recording might explain the association.
